Playboy Goes Hentai
Believe it or not, Marge Simpson has been revealed as the November cover girl for Playboy magazine. The issue, hitting stands on October 16, features a three-page photo spread and interview with the blue haired babe. The magazine says that the pictures are "implied nuditity" and take a stab at readership, in attempt to attract a younger audience. The cover is a rendition of the 1971 cover of Darine Stern by photographer Richard Fegley. Stern was the first black model to grace the cover of Playboy and the cover has become a classic for the mag.
Now that I look at it, I've realized that not only does Marge Simpson have an afro, but she also rocks a ti-hop fade!! Unbelievable.
In my opinion, I think that they could have a least showed Marge with big, luxourious Victoria Secret model hair. Or the way it's shown when Homer and her first started dating.

Another thing that I noticed, is that her infamous blue fro seems rather phallic. If it was my decision, I would go with Jessica Rabbit for the first cartoon character to grace the covers of Playboy. Have they ever had a red head on the cover? I'll look into it.
In the mean time, think about what the world is coming to. And what kind of influence this will have on Lisa and Maggie. But seriously, let's not confuse Playboy with Hentai and integrated this whole Anime aspect into it all. Either way, I'm buying the issue. Ah, the effects of marketing.
Lookin good Margie!!

Freightening Fashion Faux-Pas: The Hedged Hairdo

I found this picture of Rihanna at the Balmain show on Saturday (left), during her front-row tour of Paris Fashion Week. Aside from her power shoulders, I couldn't help but notice a rendition of the classic '90s hip hop hairstyle: the hi-top fade.
The last time I saw someone rockin' the hi-top was in 1990, when Kid 'N' Play stared in the movie House Party!! Christopher Reid aka Kid at one point had the tallest hi-top in history!

Tyra Banks: Why models are paid to WALK and not TALK
I can always go for a good Tyra bit.. because she makes it so damn easy. Last night Tyra Banks took a seat in front of suspender-whore Larry King for the first time since she lost her sh*t over an unflattering beach pic. When King brought it up, the socially liberated model turned talk show host completely contradicted whatever she was trying to prove in the first place!Thankfully, CNN posted a transcript up on their site:
King: The last time you were on you were dealing with the "F" word, meaning fat. You were fighting back. There [was] a nonflattering tabloid photo of you -- remember? In the swimsuit?I couldn't help but be drawn to a particular part of the interview, when King sparked a conversation about Banks' natural hair:
Banks: Yes.
King: You lost weight since then.
Banks: Yes.
King: Do you still feel an image pressure? Do you think -- you think like a fat person?
Banks: I don't actually. You know...When I told the world to kiss my fat ass, I remained that size for two years. I maintained it with my ice cream and my salad with ranch and dressing and croutons and bacon bits. Like I -- I didn't look at myself even on television and think that I was too big or -- I don't know. I didn't -- it didn't connect. But since then I have lost a lot of weight"
King: All right. You kicked off season five of your talk show by revealing your real hair.
Banks: Let's talk about my hair right now. I know it's been a big mystery. And I was like it was an unsolved mystery, and I felt like I needed to solve this mystery. Like I've worn weaves and wigs and pieces and clip-ons and clip-outs and clip-downs and around since I was 17, 18, and I wanted to show the real me. I wanted to show the raw me, and I just got out of the shower -- beat the face first of course, you all -- and then came out of here -- on this stage, and this is me, you all. This is me.
King: How did that feel?
Banks: Oh my God, it felt so liberating. It felt so liberating. I have worn fake hair since I was 17 years old.
King: This -- is this real?
Banks: Yes. This is me. You want to feel my scalp?
King: Yes.
Banks: Yes? It's a little kinky in the scalp. That's like real black girl hair. But -- go -- go in there. Yes. That's -- yes. It's kinky. Exactly. My natural hair texture is very kinky. You felt my real hair texture. This is straightened. This part is straightened. This part is not, inside. But, I mean, hair for black women, we spend $9 billion a year on hair products -- black women do. So growing up as a young girl and seeing images in the media where they're saying that a certain type of hair is beautiful and yours isn't is very difficult for a black woman -- for black women and it's a -- it's a long, political thing that we can do a whole show about. But I felt it was my responsibility to show as much of my real hair as possible.

Pink Funhouse Tour makes Britney look like a clown
It seems like all pop music celebrities these days are using a circus theme as inspiration for their tours. Christina did it first, shortly followed by Britney - who was much more successful thanks to the help of a strong marketing team over at Jive. Now, we have even more celebs jumping out of the circus clown car, including the spunky pop diva with harder abs and smaller tits than both previously mentioned acts - the one and only Pink.16.9.09

Coldplay is living la vida loca
Radiohead's distant foreign cousin - Coldplay, played to a packed stadium last night in Toronto. The tour is in support of the band's new album 'Viva La Vida'. Actually, at first I mistook them for The Killers with their scarfs and fashionably patchy, modified army blazers. At one point Chris Martin even poked fun at himself, comparing his hairstyle to Justin Timberlake in the *NSync years. The band's classical training and love for performance made it an exciting and interactive show. They embraced experimentation with a variety of instruments and new takes on old songs. Will Champion used a number of different drums throughout the show, including a performance pad and bongos. He also sings backup vocals and rocks the guitar from now and then.
Lead guitarist Jon Buckland seems to be loving the telecaster; which is pretty popular among indie/rock bands nowadays. And of course, Chris Martin being the dreamboat that he is, played both the piano and harmonica. The concert was very theatrical and visually stimulating. Butterfly shaped confetti circled the stadium and giant yellow balloons hovered the crowd, bouncing off of outstretched arms. Even their live video feed was impressive. The screens were constantly changing colours and hues, and the images came out choppy, short and frequent. I especially liked when there was an old TV beside Martin's keyboard, playing live footage of the concert. The cameras would sometimes do a close shot on the TV and it would make some really cool effec
ts that complemented the 80s feel that the band experimented with for the show. At one point they even relocated, moving to a stage further into the crowd, toward the back of the audience. This acoustic segment of the show highlighted what everybody is doing now - an MJ tribute. And what kind of band would Coldplay be if they didn't, right?Martin and Champion let loose on vocals while the crowd sang along to their acoustic rendition of 'Billie Jean'. Last night was Champion's birthday, so during in between encore songs the band arranged for a cake to be brought on stage. Over 20,000 people sang 'Happy Birthday' to the drummer before their closing act.
It was phenomenal!!

Michael's long lost son(gs)
Looks like another case of being worth more dead than alive. Since his death on June 25th, MJ has been the talk of the town - how he died, who gets custody of the children, the reason behind his death, court charges, debts owed, etc. etc. NOW, we've got another Tupac on our hands. I heard on the radio this morning a "long lost Jackson song from the early seventies" - I'm sure we can expect a new CD. But wait a minute! There's more! I found an article on The Smoking Gun - which has tons of information on all of MJ's court cases. This is from the article that I found on one of his sexual assault cases:
HE'S A PHONY! ..or is he?The grand jury transcript, which TSG exclusively obtained earlier this month, also reveals that sheriff's detectives interviewed a young friend of Jackson's during the November 2003 raid of his California estate. The performer befriended the teenager, Omer Bhatti, in 1996 during a Tunisian stop on the singer's HIStory tour (the child, then a 12-year-old Jackson imitator, was apparently spotted in front of Jackson's hotel).

Alice: post-puberty years
By now you should know about Tim Burton's remake of Alice in Wonderland. Well, I guess you could say it's more of a sequel. IMDB tells us: "The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember."According to the movie's official website: "19-year-old Alice returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends". I am especially excited to see Burton's gothic take on the classic story. His art direction is always amazing; not to mention this film is going to be in 3D. I know, right? The release date is March 5, 2010, but you can get a sneak peak by watching the trailer on the fim's website.

EXTRA! EXTRA! Michael Jackson Memorial Tour
Okay, so the memorial service is not going on tour - but if it did, I'm sure tickets would be sold out everywhere. All morning I have been glued to the nearest television screens to watch MJ's memorial. Not only was it a star-studded tribute, but a heartfelt and emotional ceremony. As much of a spectacle as it was, you can only imagine that Michael wouldn't have wanted it any different. To tell you the truth, I'm sure he would have made it even more outrageous if he had the chance. The most interesting part about the broadcast was the fact that Michael's kids were being shown to the public for the first time. There are only a few images of the children that have been released to the public, so up until today no one has really gotten a sense of who they are. When Paris said the closing words of the ceremony I completely broke down and lost it - full on waterworks people. I can't wait until those kids grow up, not only to see what they become but to hear what they have to say about daddy'o.
Back to the memorial - I absolutely loved Magic Johnson reminiscing about the superstar and him eating a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. While Stevie Wonder killed it, I expected a little more from my homegirl Mariah. However, I did enjoy John Mayer, who made the right decision by having his guitar on vocals. The only thing that threw me off was Brooke Shields. I had no idea that they were so close - but let's face it, she is just as crazy as he was so I can totally believe it.
Lastly,
Where the eff were Britney and Justin?

Rock the Bells 2009
Yesterday I ventured down to the Toronto harborfront to see a little music festival called Rock the Bells. Hip Hop superstars graced the Amphitheatre stage with sunny rays all day and a full moon at night. The lineup was incredible, even though some big headliners never made it to the Toronto show (The Roots, Busta Rhymes and Common were scheduled to play but cancelled, and Cypress Hill is only playing in the states!!).Tech N9ne put on an incredibly entertaining show - not to mention they rap almost as fast as Twista which is always fun to listen to. Slaughterhouse (which consists of Joe Budden, Royce Da 5′ 9″, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I) came on a bit strong, but won me over when Joe Budden took it back and played "Pump it Up". RZA and GZA played an ODB song in tribute to him; while Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Nas all made shoutouts to the late Michael Jackson.
Somehow I managed to spot a security guard handing out wristbands for the floor, right before Nas and Damian Marley were playing. They played an amazing show incorporating stuff from their new album Distant Relatives (release date still unannounced) and some of their own stuff - you know, the crowd pleasers. While we were on the floor I managed to get a few great videos of their performance. I especially like the video I took of Damian singing his version of daddy's "One Love". Check it out below:
The official set times for yesterday's show:
THE KNUX 2:00 - 2:20 PM

Happy Sgt. Pepper's Day!!

Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the iconic Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. This album is known for the band's transition into a studio-based band. They experimented with a number of random instruments on the album; and integrated Indian culture into their sound with the use of a sitar - thank you George Harrison. Remember the "Paul is dead" hoax? The back cover of the album not only is the first to sport Beatles lyrics, but also has Paul with his back to the camera - which definitely fueled the dead McCartney fire. In 2003, Rolling Stone Magazine named this album the greatest of all time; even the packaging is Grammy Award-winning.
Fixing a Hole, Day in the Life, When I'm Sixty-Four, For the Benefit of Mr. Kite - the list of hits off this album go on and on. So happy Sgt. Pepper's Day!! Easy listening lovechilds!!

What do Miley, Beyonce, Eminem and David Bowie have in common?
I read an article today from cbc.ca that compared two of pop music's celebrity alter egos - the legendary rock star alien Ziggy Stardust (by quirky David Bowie) and the wholesome Hannah Montanna (played by real-life "singer", Miley Cyrus).Plenty of stars have tried Bowie's 37 year old strategy, and most have failed miserably. May I remind you of Mariah Carey's empancipation of Mimi, or when Christina Aguilera went dirrty as Xtina, and the Shady side of Eminem. I really like the whole alter ego thing to tell you the truth. It gives an artist dimension - and in pop music you need something eccentric to make good entertainment. Stage performance is everything.. and what better than an alter ego to bring that out in a star? LOVE IT.
Thank you CBC for the picture!

Rich Girls Always Win
In the 600th issue of Archie Comics, Archie Andrews finally picks his lady after almost 70 years of debate. On May 15th, the comic's website announced that Archie would be getting engaged. Word got out today via New York Post that he chooses Veronica in the issue titled "The Proposal: Part 1 of 6". The Archie gals posted about the engagement via blogs on the comic's website. On Wednesday Veronica wrote on her blog:
"I am so excited, I am getting Married to Archie. There is so much to do, so many plans to make. I wonder if Betty wants to be my Maid of Honor? I bet she is so happy for me!(((Hugs))) Ronnie"
In reponse, Betty's blog, titled "The saddest girl in the world" simply states:
"I am so sad, I don't even know what to say. Xoxoxoxo Bets"
To tell you the truth, I'm not really in shock. Archie constantly ditched Betty for Ron; her evil ways always won him over. And let's not forget about Cheryl Blossom. When the "Love Showdown" issue came out - which by the way I still am mad about never reading - I totally called that she was going to be the obvious opt-out. Remember that the cover can be deceiving, it's only the first of six issues and anything can happen! What I think would work is a storyline between one of the girls and Jughead. How much more interesting would that be? Just saying.
Weird."In the story, Archie has finally graduated from Riverdale High School; in fact, he’s five years older and a college graduate. He may even have — gasp! — an actual job when he gets engaged."

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse - Lady Ga-Ga poses as Dee Snider for Rolling Stone Magazine. But honestly, is the resemblance not unbelievably apparent? Bogus Blink? I'm on the fence
Blink 182 performed on the show last night. Check out their performances below.
I would have to agree with my friend when she says that Tom DeLonge is a bit disappointing in the first clip of All the Small Things. His voice has matured, and he seems to have picked up a different style from his alternative band Angels & Airwaves. Either way, I think that Tom rocked the riffs we sang in middle school - not to mention Travis and Mark were off the wall.
Verdict: Blink is back and sure they sound a bit different; but they are still playing our favorites which is exactly what we want from them. Therefore, I think Blink is bitchin'.

I have seen MixMaster Mike and Andy C a few times now, but I still can't wait to watch them spin again. Now I have at least four music festivals under my belt this summer!!
Frightening Fashion Faux-Pas: TREY TACKLING TRENDS
I happened to stumbled upon this picture of Trey Philips from Laguna Beach. We all remember Trey for his wacky eccentric trucker hats that the Laguna gang would model at his fashion shows. Trucker hats are soo early 2000s its crazy.. and we can thank Ashton Kutcher for that. Pretty much I find this picture funny for two reasons:- He's still wearing the trucker hat and collared shirt combo - collar popped
- He is actually trying to pull off a belt as a super trendy sash
So I decided to check up on Trey the trucker hat activist only to find a MySpace site dedicated to his political group Active Young America. Hey - he's still popular enough to get his picture taken, right? You don't see a post about Talan on my blog, do you? - Mind you, I'm pretty sure he is still dating Nicole Scherzinger from PCD; which says a lot more than Trey's post-Laguna buzzworthiness!
